Chief Medical Officer
Dr Martin Johnson has a background of 29 years of General Practice combined with extensive Primary Care Research and Healthcare reorganisation. In 1995 he founded the Innovex Primary Care Research Group. Between 1995 and 2002 Martin helped in the foundation and subsequent development of Profiad, the first national Primary Care Research Company. During his time in Primary Care, he was UK Principal Investigator for several multi-centre projects including asthma, COPD, pain management, GI. Martin has extensive phase 2 to 4 research experience in pain management, asthma, depression, obesity, sinusitis, migraine, bronchitis, UTI, skin & soft tissue infections, hay fever.
Between 2012 and May 2017, Dr Johnson was Medical Director and then Senior Medical Director for Retroscreen/hVIVO. During that time, he was Principal Investigator on 5 occasions and Sponsor Medical Expert 8 times, for studies in the field of asthma and virology.
In mid 2017 Martin left hVIVO to take on the role of Director, Medical Operations (UK) for Synexus/AES however in early March 2020 Martin returned to his former role as Senior Medical Director and also as GMC Responsible Officer at hVIVO.
As well as virology and asthma Dr Johnson has a widespread interest in pain management. In his spare time he is a Royal College of General Practitioners lead for chronic pain, Council Member of the British Pain Society (former Honorary Secretary and Vice President) and co-chair of a parliamentary advisory group on chronic pain – Martin has developed several national strategies relating to pain, including the national commissioning guidelines and Map of Medicine pathways.
