Use of Multiplex PCR for eligibility screening of human challenge study participants and for new virus Isolation

We detail the use of multiplex qualitative PCR for 2 specific reasons. Firstly, on admission to our Clinical site to test for the presence of a panel of respiratory pathogens which could impair the result from our Human challenge studies and secondly in view of isolating and producing new challenge agents. Over the last couple of years, Adenovirus, Coronavirus 229E, HKU1, NL63, OC43, SARS-CoV-2, Human Metapneumovirus, Human Rhinovirus/Enterovirus, Flu A, Flu B, Parainfluenza Virus 1, 2, 3, 4 and RSV were tested on each of more than 1300 participants invited to quarantine and in parallel we also use a similar testing approach to assess samples from hVIVO employees, their relatives and friends who were suffering from respiratory infections, this time in view of isolating new Seed Virus Stocks.
